Fair trade Way - A Walk to highlight Fair Trade Businesses in Pondicherry

Months of planning , with support around the world and in particular from devoted and tireless campaigners in Pondicherry and Auroville culiminated in a walk. As part of the International Festival of Fair Trade Walks a group of 10 people including fair trade supporters from UK, France, US and ofcourse, Pondicherry walked through it's streets on Saturday 29th April 2017.

Plenty of preparation and a "mock-walk" was even done before the actual day to make sure things go to plan, without a hitch. The reality was that he went even better than expected, with an aura of excitement with those involved and a clear air of purpose.

The walk started at Mandala Apparels Fair Trade clothing factory with a candle lit vigil to remember the Bangladeshi garment workers who died in April 2013 following collapse of their workplace.

The group walked 6km pasting a Fair Trade milestone sticker on Fair Trade establishments in the city as they passed by.

The walk ended on Rock Beach where the campaign to make twin towns Pondicherry-Auroville the first Fair Trade Towns in India was celebrated.
